Crap American’s Eat
America’s a funny place. Land of the free, home of the brave… well, more like Brave enough to eat some of these incredibly feral foods.
Like this one right here – what is this? A sugar free Fudge Brownie? How does that work?
Turn it over and look at the ingredients.
Um… this is all fine, but the one thing I’ve got issues with is it saying “MADE FROM ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS.” Can someone please explain to me how a sugar substitute, dextrin, xanthan gum, isobutene, propane, lecithin and dimethicone are natural??
I always thought that natural meant from nature and it seems that all these things are processed.
And what about the good ol’ humble cheesecake?
Did you ever really think of the calories that were in one slice of cheesecake?
Yeah, and this doesn’t even have the highest calorie content!
Now, this one rang some alarm bells.
I cant believe it says the following on the side of the container: No Significant difference has been shown in milk from cows treated with artificial growth hormone rbST and non rbST treated cows.
Um… okay… but isn’t that hormones to produce MORE milk? And if we ingest hormones wouldn’t that affect the way our bodies function with these extra hormones? In theory, it sounds like a winner doesn’t it…
Yeah, I dunno – the back of this is just not stacking up.
And then there’s the ‘all you can eat’ buffet. We went on a cruise to the Bahamas and it’s open 24 hours a day seven days a week. They are epic with the cheap, fatty foods that have beautiful colours and gorgeously designed pieces of editable art! I mean, why wouldn’t you want to try one of these cakes. (obesity anyone?)
And, don’t get me started with this. What on earth is it? I seriously cannot comprehend this in any way, shape or form.
And the servings are huge. American culture is to eat half and then take the other half home to eat later. Interesting concept. And don’t get me started on tipping.
Ok, I love the bacon sundae, well not really, but it’s really an “only in America” kind of thing!! We’ve been so spoiled living in the Netherlands and Ireland with the quality of food… we always find it difficult going back to the US and grocery shopping as nothing is really that “natural”.
Yeah. It’s a bit of a shame and there’s no way to get around it. It’s just a part of the culture and no one has really thought much about it and questioned it, so it is the way it is.. perhaps it will change in the future – for the sake of those who live there and do want to eat healthy. But, it is kinda fun to poke fun at a culture with so many bad and amazing things in their food!
You fail to mention the “Insane Monte Cristo Burger”, a meat patty with Gruyere fondue, wrapped in prosciutto presented in a bun that has been soaked in vanilla custard then deep fried, sprinkled with icing sugar and served with a side of maple syrup. WTF? I have an American friend who is (supposedly) a chef and he loves this kind of crap.
